FROM NUMBERS TO TINT: HOW A BANKER FOUND HIS SHADE

Every brand has a story. Ours? It started in the least likely place—inside a university math class.

Back in 2005, I was deep in the world of numbers, logic, and statistical models at Kenyatta University. BSc. Mathematics & Statistics. Yeah, the serious stuff. But let’s be honest, spreadsheets don’t make your heart race. So, by night, I moonlighted in design—crafting kitchen cabinets and hanging wallpaper for a quirky Korean interior design outfit in Hurlingham. Let’s just say: weekdays were analytics. Weeknights? Aesthetic gymnastics.

Then came 2009. Graduation cap on. Degree in hand. I joined Co-operative Bank’s Card Centre in 2010. Suits, systems, boardrooms. It felt right—until it didn’t.

On January 23, 2012, something shifted. (Maybe it was the Ocampo Six making headlines, maybe it was just destiny.) By Valentine’s Day, I’d made my move. Love wasn’t the only thing in the air that day—I was finally free to build something of my own.

Enter: Wallpaper Hanging. Again. Only this time, it was mine. But Kenya wasn’t quite ready. Most folks thought I was hanging rugs on walls. Then came a curveball: a client asked, “Can you tint my car?” Cue record scratch.

Challenge accepted.

At first, I outsourced. Trusted the guys in Nairobi West. But watching from the sidelines didn’t sit right. I wasn’t wired to spectate—I wanted to build mastery.

So I did what any slightly obsessive future expert would do—I ordered seven car tinting DVDs from Express Window Films USA. Yes, DVDs. (Remember those?) I binge-watched every frame, soaking up every technique the pros used in the States. It was like Tinting Netflix—but without the chill.

Then, I went all in. Apprentice mode. Nairobi West. 5AM wake-ups. Waiting outside closed shops till 10AM. Sometimes hungry, sometimes frustrated, but always driven. I gave it four hard months. No shortcuts. No ego. Just grit.

Fast forward 13 years—and here we are.

Today, I lead a team that doesn’t just tint cars. We protect automotive beauty. We elevate everyday vehicles into statements of precision. We install film with the kind of finesse you’d expect from a Formula 1 pit crew. Clean bays. Zero excuses. Only elite-level execution.
